Sound Masking is a system installed into the workspace that emits an ambient sound to a similar frequency as human speech, this sound is typically referred to as pink noise which is described as more “pleasant”. Sound masking doesn’t necessarily cover up sound but rather evens out the noise around the office so other sound distractions are muffled or more difficult to understand. This would only affect conversation or meeting happening at a distance, face-to-face conversation wouldn’t be affected by this system.

How Does it Work?
When it comes to installing a sound masking system in a workspace, what happens is small speakers are placed all around the office. Now the system installed can be either a direct field sound masking system or an indirect field sound masking system. In a direct field system, the speakers are placed in ceiling tiles and are pointed directly to the office space, hence the name. The direct field system ensures consistent sound masking in the office. Indirect field system, on the other hand, speakers are placed facing the ceiling and the sound is reflected off the roof and send down to the office. This type of system ensures full coverage and reduced the amount of “dead” areas in the office
